Whew! Wasn't I supposed to update just a day or two after my last post? Hah - sorry! Things got kind of hectic around here - and it doesn't seem like they're going to slow down one bit...a good and bad thing.
The Good:
It's keeping me out of my house.
I'm making money and saving it.
I'm staying sane.
The Bad:
Lack of social life and seeing my friends.
I'm tired by the time the weekend comes which effects the previous statement.
So what exactly have I been up to? Well I won't bore you with the details but for the most part it's been:
Coaching
School
Work at Cabrini
Doing homework for school
Reading for school
The first real break I had was this past Saturday and you know what I did? I sat on my mom's recliner and watched College Basketball ALL DAY! 'Twas glorious and I didn't feel guilty in the least. Ok, ok...I did do some homework in between games and I did go to the gym for a run.
Speaking of running - I was actually going to run outside this morning and then I checked the temperature....12! Yikes! Yeah - I guess I'll be going to the gym again. I just want to run outside again so badly! The streets are mostly clear of snow now so I figured it'd be a good day but 12 is too cold. Maybe I should've just gone and not looked at the temps. Ah well...Hindsight is 20/20, right? But I definitely need to run outside at least once before the 19th! I'm running the Frostbite Five Miler! And yes those are penguins! Bethany convinced me to run it. It's my first race of 2011! Plenty more to come after that:
March - Phillies 5K
May - Broad Street and ODDessey Half Marathon
June - Possibly the KOP 10 Miler and Philly Tri (Olympic)
September - Rock n' Roll Half
October - Hershey Half Marathon!
November - Philly Marathon (eek!)
I'm sure there will be other shorter races thrown in there somewhere/somehow! I'm also trying to do more cross training this year to prevent injury. I've been spinning more and am going to start working out with a group on Tuesday and Thursday Mornings to keep things interesting. As of right now I'm averaging about 23-27 miles a week - a definite increase since last year. Although this week I've only run 4 miles so far! Ha :-) Hopefully I'll get 8 in today - 6 tomorrow and 6 or 7 in on Saturday with a few junk miles on Friday.
The regular swim season is over (tear) but today is actually the Silver Meet (kind of like B champs) and Presidents Day weekend is Central League Champs. March 3rd and 4th is Districts at La Salle! Yeah baby! My alma mater! And then States (which I don't think any of my girls will qualify for) is March 18th and 19th (but I'm still going anyway!). I was actually asked to help coach Lacrosse at LMHS this spring. We'll see if I get that job. The money would be great! If not, I'll just work at Baldwin 5 days a week.
I have some feelers out there for a summer job. Please think good thoughts for me. If I get it I'd be coaching and managing a pool. Which would mean I can move out! I've been looking at some apartments near Havertown and the Main Line. It'd be such a quicker commute for all of my things - Cabrini, Baldwin, LMHS Swim/Lax - and I'd be able to walk a lot of places and save on gas. Here's hoping!
Oh! I almost forgot - I am auditioning to teach spinning this week (my first class would be Sunday the 20th at 8:15AM at the LAF Collegeville - a little far but won't be much traffic on Sunday mornings). Yay for another way of making money and staying fit! Here's hoping I can start doing those on a more regular basis. No it's not a ton of money but I've missed teaching those classes and making spinning mixes. I think they're going to like my first class music list!
As for other things - I've been out of my house for most of the days in the last few weeks or so - with the exception of the snow days we've had (ugh, I'm so over winter!) - I like always having something to do. I feel badly that I'm slacking in some areas of my life over others but I guess that's what happens. There's only so much I can do - unless the days were made to be 36 hours instead of 24 and the weekends were 5 days instead of two - then I'd get everything done!
Until the next time...which I won't promise will be tomorrow....adieu my lovelies
The Law of Constant Change as a fundamental law of our life that needs to be both understood and harnessed if we are to have a happy and successful life. The Law states that everything in our life is in constant change, constantly in the process of becoming something else. Nothing stays exactly as it is. Nothing. Movement and change constitute the reality of our being.

"Do yourself a favor....don't ever play poker"
Is what my boss/supervisor/mentor at Cabrini told me the other day. It was the same day that I did horribly on the second practice Praxis test. I don't hide my sadness very well it seems. Honestly, I think I do, but when it comes to people that I know will care, I don't. No one else, besides my friends, knew of the frustration I was having all week. Especially no one at work.
So here's what's happened since Wednesday:
Thursday I went for a run in the morning. It was hot! But I'm glad I ran outside. I went to work and learned that the Board Members at PSC want to change like - a lot of things that will create a very dangerous environment at the club. Needless to say, it's kind of up to me to save it. Ha. That's a post for a different time. After work I went to class - where I was all prepared to give my lecture presentation but some stupid woman just got up and changed the order of who was going to lecture in class. I was pretty pissed - especially since I had my presentation all set up from the get-go. Yeah. Not a happy camper after class. After that, I got home and walked into my house - chilled and decided to meet up with a few of my guards later that night at Scoogi's in Flourtown. Thursday nights is karaoke and/or trivia - we were all excited for trivia but because there were too many people there - it was just karaoke all night. But I sang! Haha my head guard and I sang an Eminem song (The Real Slim Shady of all songs...haha). I couldn't stop laughing. It was a fun night. The day ended much better than it had began.
Friday was a new day. I woke up - went to spin class. Went to work. Did some stuff and then decided it was just going to be a nothing doing day. When I get back on Sunday I will be extra motivated. I felt really good after spin class - and then a few hours later I felt really hung over - ha - I only had three beers! But - I went to coaching in the afternoon. The last for the year and there weren't many kids there - so it was fine. I got home and had dinner. Shortly thereafter I got a phone call from Paul! He was home! So I went over to his house for about a half hour - saw him - chatted - etc. His family is having a family reunion this weekend so I didn't stay long - but I just wanted to see him. I missed him! Besides, deciding to leave early was a good decision because I wanted to get a good night sleep before the Praxis today.
Here's the crazy part:
So I'm hanging out - on facebook - checking email - waiting to go to bed. And the doorbell to my house goes off. It's four of my guards from PSC. Yes. They showed up to my house. [[Backtrack a bit: Earlier in the day at work, they all found out I had never seen Mulan. So they felt it was their duty to come over and watch it with me. And that's just what we did. It was the most unusual and interesting situation I've ever been in. Oh, did I mention they were all guys?]] I was just as surprised as anyone would've been. I really didn't expect them to come here. I guess I know better from now on. Ha. Well, its a funny story to tell anyway. They were all so cute too - they dressed up thinking they were going to meet my mom and stepdad. haha - it was pretty funny. I don't know whether to be embarrassed or flattered that they wanted to come over and see me. Haha. It was one of those moments you know you'll never forget.
As for today - I'm just chillin' until 9 or so - then I'm going for a short run - shower - and review a bit of the Praxis stuff. I need to figure out exactly where I go for the test. It's in Conshy - I'm just not familiar with 100 W Maple street. So. Yeah. I'm going to take my test - and then I'm supposed to go to my cousin's graduation party - but I actually found out on Thursday that my final project for my Education class is due on Tuesday. So. Yeah. I have to do homework when I get home. Fun. And then I work tomorrow. Good times.
Anyway - fingers crossed for me! I'm going to need it!

"high five!"......"turkey!"
So I learned a few things at PSC yesterday:
1. There are new ways to give High Fives - one involved a turkey, a jelly fish, a hotdog, a squid, and an octopus (I think). Ask me some time, I'll show you what I mean.
2. There is NOTHING that a kid won't do for attention.
3. Babies will undoubtedly puke in the baby pool.
4. Guys, given the right ammo, will be intrigued about pretty much anything.
5. Spending a day there will make me feel better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As per my previous post, I didn't get a good night sleep Friday night. That being said, I didn't sleep well last night either. I had another panic attack. I went to my room with the intention of going to sleep early around 10PM - the last time I looked at the clock it was nearly 1AM. This means =====> I did NOT get a chance to run this morning. I did NOT get enough sleep last night. I am cranky this morning because I already feel fat. Awesomeness.
I have my last lifeguarding cert class this morning. It's pretty much our final tests in the water and on paper. Whatevs. I'm not worried. I kind of wish I could've done it yesterday. Afterwards, I am scheduled to work the late shift. So. Depending on how I feel. I may either leave and go for a run OR stay and suck it up...hang out at the club. Miss the boys' softball game. And just stay til close. We'll see. I suppose it just depends on how long the tests take.
I don't know what's up with me lately. I'm seriously concerned about the panic attacks. I'm not sleeping because of said panic attacks. I feel as though the lack of exercise yesterday had a bit to do with the lack of tiredness last night - but I suppose it shouldn't matter, right?
Oh well. Off to another day! Sometimes I feel like I'm back in college again - putting on a happy face for people who don't really know what's beneath. I suppose that's why I know I can write all this here, because the ones that are reading this are truly my friends so they understand me.
Getting back to it....
I'll admit it. I haven't been doing that great since I've started working at PSC.
No, not in the way everyone might think. But in the way that I allow ANYTHING to pass through my lips (ie. french fries, pretzels, french fries...french fries). ya. It's pretty bad. And I have to wear a two piece. Personally, I don't think it's a very pretty site. But that could just be me. Honestly, I don't want to continue with it. So here's my solution (or temporary one):
[[Sidenote: If I'm being entirely honest here, modesty kind of went out the window a few years ago. I have to suck it up here. I'm at least 5-6 years older than the next oldest worker at PSC which means my body isn't going to look like theirs. That being said, not all of them have exceptional bodies, but the ones that do just put me to shame - in terms of body. The real sitch is, I really want a six pack. I think I can work hard to get it. So, I'm going to.]]
1. I will stop eating the food from the club. Just because it's offered to me by the guards, doesn't mean it's ok to eat. It's free food, not free calories.
2. I will eat more fruit and veggies as well as drink more water throughout the day. The heat really puts a damper on my appetite, which can be great but I still need to drink water. That's pretty important.
3. I'm going to start doing some P90X workouts. I'll most likely borrow the DVDs from Bill and Anne up the street. Hopefully they'll be cool with that.
4. I won't be so hard on myself when it comes to getting to where I want by a certain time. It's a slower process (I AM old, so it'll take a little bit longer).
5. I want to get my bike!
On the Agenda for this week:
Today: PSC then Cabrini for a few hours - Then PRAXIS STUDYING!
Tomorrow: Spin Class, PSC, Class @ Cabrini, Foundation Meeting
Wednesday: PSC then Cabrini - PRAXIS STUDY!
Thursday: PSC, class @ cabrini
Friday: PSC, Coaching @ Baldwin
Saturday: More lifeguard cert stuff, Work PSC
Sunday: Last lifeguard cert class, Work PSC
This week is pretty much the norm for the next three weeks, at least until I take the Praxis test, finish lifeguarding certs, finish class @ cabrini, and finish coaching at Baldwin until the Fall.
Some good stuff:
-Paul is coming home the 18th! yay!!!! can't wait to see him.
-Jon might be coming up to visit! yay!!!
-Being busy will make the month go quickly:-)
Suck it up....rub some dirt in it...and get back in there!
That - is going to be my motto for the rest of the year. "Suck it up, rub some dirt in it..and get back in there!"
It sounds silly but really - it's pretty true. I have been approaching a lot of the things in my life as "oh geez, poor me" or "man this sucks, I can't believe I STILL am having issues with my leg and can't run".
On my way home from work yesterday I realized AND reminded myself....I don't have to do anything for anyone else but MYSELF. Yes. I have signed up for two races in the near future...but I am still having issues with my leg. No. I didn't know it would be like this. But really...do I want to risk injuring it further by getting pissed that it's not healing and knowing I won't have enough time to train for everything that I want to? No. I don't. So here's what I'm going to do:
Since I know rest helps it - I am going to do just that. I am still going to work out - but not run. Granted - that'll change how I eat and whatnot but I'd rather have a working leg than one that doesn't. Also - I am going to find a doctor and see if they can either recommend a specialist or something to help with the healing. After I do all that - I am going to see how it feels. IF and only IF it is better - I will run....I have a 10K in a few weeks - which - might be doable. HOWEVER - if my leg starts to hurt again afterwards - the Half Marathon - I'm afraid - is probably not going to happen. Yes - it'll suck paying the money and not running and yes - it'll suck because it's in Philly and I really wanted to run while my family was watching AND it's a cool place to run - but I don't want to have permanent damage.
All that being said - I still have to motivate myself to workout. The running was something I guess I took for granted. I am going to miss doing it. It has really changed the way my body looks - at least - to me it has. I might try to start riding again - I haven't in a while - I should give Brian a call.
And the motto isn't JUST for my athletic/physical side. I am seriously going to just suck it up when it comes to the things that are being thrown at me in life. I can't sit here and wallow. It drains me of my energy and then makes me not want to work out. I LOVE to do that...work out. I need to find that passion again.
In other realms - I am traveling this weekend to Arizona for a shoot. Should be fun. I haven't packed yet. I figure I'll do it tonight after I get home from the gym and do laundry. It's been about three weeks since LA - feels a lot longer though. I'm starting to realize how much I really do love traveling. I'm just itching to get out of the country and explore. My friend Pam and I are thinking about taking a trip to Italy next Spring - if it works out - and Paul is in Spain by then - I think I'm going to go to Italy and then go to Spain - kind of a two week vacation. Depends though - on money - timing - work and other things. May seems to be like it might be the best option as for timing.
Anywho - Happy Friday! Hope all is well in the world:-)
I....AM......JOB
um - yeah - can I just tell you. woah with the tiredness. Srsly. I tried, I TRIED! to get more sleep last night - and I actually didn't wake up at all last night - a nice change from Sunday night where I approximated about 4 hours of actual sleep time.
I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and my first reaction was "damn, that mack truck was WAY bigger than I thought it would be". Yeah.
Anyway - I'm nearly 3/4 of the way through work today - better than yesterday - albeit that's not really saying much. I am BORED with this job - bored with life - bored with myself. BORED I TELL YOU!
The rest of the month will probably go really fast though, which has its ups and downs.
This Friday, an ex-boyfriend from High School who happens to live in Ft. Lauderdale now, is driving up to have dinner and drinks with me. That should be nice - considering I haven't seen him in a few years and we always seem to just miss each other. That'll be good. So I'm taking a half day on Friday (so I can workout since I didn't go yesterday - I'm a loser). I'm working for WinnerComm again this weekend for Dance/Cheer stuff - so no day's off.
Next week - I work Mon - Wed full days - Thursday I am taking a half day because Paul is flying in to visit for the weekend and he'll be here! So I'm excited for that - we plan on doing nothing! It should be great:-)
The following week is kind of the same - Mon - Wed I am working full days then taking off Thursday so I can workout before I fly home that afternoon - I fly up to Philly that Thursday, out to London the next day - in London for the weekend for soccer! and then back Monday night. I intend on taking off on Tuesday to give myself a day to catch up on sleep - I didn't schedule that time in the last time I went to Ireland so I am pretty sure it'll be better this way - and I won't be useless at work.
Then the week I'm back in Orlando (last week of Feb) - I work through Friday but Glenn (childhood friend/neighbor) wants to come down that last weekend in February to play golf and hang out. I think I am going to have to tell him that I just can't do it because I won't be able to take off work. He'll just have to come in March.
And by that time - March will be here! Craziness!
All the while, I MUST keep up with my TEFL course - I really don't want to not be able to finish it - I paid good money for it - speaking of money - I owe Trish rent and I have to put in for an invoice by Friday so I can get paid. Yucky money. HATESES MONEY!
--------------------------------------
As for other things - I've gotten really good with responding to people blindly. Example:
Person: Hey Katie what's up?
Me: Hey - nothing, how're you?
Person: Good, u?
Me: Good.
(also sometimes I'll say - "alright")
Ha - boy do I have them fooled. No one really cares all that much anyway - atleast not the passers-by. My friends do. Is it bad that I don't either?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?
I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and my first reaction was "damn, that mack truck was WAY bigger than I thought it would be". Yeah.
Anyway - I'm nearly 3/4 of the way through work today - better than yesterday - albeit that's not really saying much. I am BORED with this job - bored with life - bored with myself. BORED I TELL YOU!
The rest of the month will probably go really fast though, which has its ups and downs.
This Friday, an ex-boyfriend from High School who happens to live in Ft. Lauderdale now, is driving up to have dinner and drinks with me. That should be nice - considering I haven't seen him in a few years and we always seem to just miss each other. That'll be good. So I'm taking a half day on Friday (so I can workout since I didn't go yesterday - I'm a loser). I'm working for WinnerComm again this weekend for Dance/Cheer stuff - so no day's off.
Next week - I work Mon - Wed full days - Thursday I am taking a half day because Paul is flying in to visit for the weekend and he'll be here! So I'm excited for that - we plan on doing nothing! It should be great:-)
The following week is kind of the same - Mon - Wed I am working full days then taking off Thursday so I can workout before I fly home that afternoon - I fly up to Philly that Thursday, out to London the next day - in London for the weekend for soccer! and then back Monday night. I intend on taking off on Tuesday to give myself a day to catch up on sleep - I didn't schedule that time in the last time I went to Ireland so I am pretty sure it'll be better this way - and I won't be useless at work.
Then the week I'm back in Orlando (last week of Feb) - I work through Friday but Glenn (childhood friend/neighbor) wants to come down that last weekend in February to play golf and hang out. I think I am going to have to tell him that I just can't do it because I won't be able to take off work. He'll just have to come in March.
And by that time - March will be here! Craziness!
All the while, I MUST keep up with my TEFL course - I really don't want to not be able to finish it - I paid good money for it - speaking of money - I owe Trish rent and I have to put in for an invoice by Friday so I can get paid. Yucky money. HATESES MONEY!
--------------------------------------
As for other things - I've gotten really good with responding to people blindly. Example:
Person: Hey Katie what's up?
Me: Hey - nothing, how're you?
Person: Good, u?
Me: Good.
(also sometimes I'll say - "alright")
Ha - boy do I have them fooled. No one really cares all that much anyway - atleast not the passers-by. My friends do. Is it bad that I don't either?
